Suryapet Orphanage - First Report

Thursday - Well, I have finally arrived in Suryapet, some 60 miles from Hyderabad Airport. It seems that tourists don't come here; I am definitely the only white person they have seen for a while. The Orphanage is about five miles out of town, passing huge mounds of rice, heards of goats and crazy traffic.

Finally, I arrive at the Orphanage, the children are all lined up ready to welcome me. I shake all 103 little hands, everyone smiling, happy and excited, whilst I can only think that they were abandoned children; very hard to take in. With a deep breath, I build up the courage to thank them for their greetings and proceed to distribute their individual presents, receiving over a hundred "Thank you Sir" in their songful Indian accents and beautiful little faces.

The children sing to me, I pretend I can understand the words, but of course I cannot, but it the sweetest you will ever hear. Their eyes tell the sorry of the happiness they feel for each other and the warm of the Orphanage, their carers and teachers.
