Suryapet Ophanage....

Suryapet Orphanage

I went to support Suryapet Orphanage last November.

Suryapet Orphanage or 'Hostel' as the children call it, cares for 103 orphans from the town and surrounding villages in Nalgonda District, Andhra Pradesh, South India. These children have come from very poor districts of Suryapet and local farming villages where poverty is unreal. Most of the children’s parents have died due to untreated Malaria, AIDs and TB or killed on the roads. Relations and Elders are too poor to look after them and they are abandoned, living on the unforgiving streets without food, protection, or shelter. The ‘lucky’ ones are taken into the Orphanage and are given food, clothing, medication and an education in a caring environment. I also visited local villages to see where the children come from and try to understand the 'unreal' situation.

Three local churches in Essex fund the day to day running at £23 per child per month, but I wanted to go one stage further. The children’s ambitions are like any other kids, they want to be teachers, doctors and computer engineers, but realistically this is going to be near impossible, at best difficult. I don’t want to accept this and supplied the Orphanage with some Computers to help them engage in the modern world. Projects such as this, can only be funded in addition to their primary needs.

During my visit I produced some promotional material in the form of photographs and a documentry film, to help to ensure that funding can be maintained now and in the future.

A big THANK YOU to those who donated a total of £1150 to make this project possible, purchasing the computers. I can assure you that funds have made a difference, just look at their little faces.

Do enjoy the Documanary, it is only eight minutes long but it's effect will last much longer.

If you do want to donate you can go the the 'www.helpindianchildren.org' website, which has a link to the official Virgin MoneyGiving page.

The organising Churches are Hadleigh Baptist Church, Earls Hall Baptist Church and West Leigh Baptist Church.
